About Victoria University of Wellington
Victoria University of Wellington’s Ferrier Research Institute is leading the delivery of an exciting taught Master’s programme, the Master of Drug Discovery and Development.
This program will prepare graduates to work in the pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, and agrichemical industries.
The program was created in collaboration with international leaders in the pharmaceutical and related industries.
Students will benefit from coursework in various interdisciplinary subjects ranging from medicinal chemistry, pharmaceutical analytical chemistry, and drug formulation to the regulatory framework in which pharmaceutical and similar companies operate and intellectual property strategies.
This degree is intended to give students a broad understanding of the pharmaceutical environment and can lead to PhD study.

Benefits of Victoria University of Wellington Masters Scholarship
- The successful candidate for the Master of Drug Discovery and Development Scholarship will receive NZ $15,000.
- This award can only be used towards the candidate’s tuition fee.
Requirements for Victoria University of Wellington Masters Scholarship Qualification
The scholarship is open to all international students but only after they have enrolled and successfully completed one trimester of research towards their postgraduate research in Drug Discovery and Development.
The scholarship is open to all qualifying international students. International students refer to students who do not have New Zealand residency and are not New Zealand citizens.
Applicants must meet programme-specific eligibility criteria and University eligibility criteria. Applicants must obtain a suitable visa in order to study in New Zealand. The scholarship becomes payable on enrolment and must be used against tuition fees only.
Holders of this scholarship will be expected to work on a research project under the supervision of a Ferrier Research Institute staff member, on a project approved by the Director of the Ferrier Research Institute, or his delegated nominee.
Selection criteria include academic performance, publications and/or conference proceedings, referee reports, and any other tangible demonstration of academic or research ability.
Interview date, Process and Venue for Victoria University of Wellington Masters Scholarship
- Must be international students.
- Applicants must have an undergraduate degree in Chemistry or a relevant life science subject such as Biochemistry, Biomedical Science, Pharmacy, Pharmacology or another relevant subject, with an average of at least a B+ in 300-level Chemistry.
- Applicants must be intending to enrol in a taught Master’s programme (Master of Drug Discovery and Development) at Victoria University of Wellington
