The program aspires to provide outstanding management of the entire field of water, including all of its components.

Students will be prepared to meet future professional demands in research and practice around the world.

Due to the specific problems that exist in developing and transitional countries, such as limited drinking water and raw water resources.

As well as the devastating effects of hydrologic extremes such as droughts or flood disasters linked to heavy erosion, the degree course is geared toward students from those countries.

The master’s program covers the requirements for pursuing and developing professions in national and international governments and organizations.

The master’s program will prepare students to work in development and consulting agencies, administer water management systems, and participate to cross-disciplinary research projects.

Students from China, Indonesia, Nepal, and Germany enrolled in the course when it initially began in the winter semester of 2004/05.

Students from China, Uganda, Sudan, Indonesia, Pakistan, Brazil, Greece, Spain, Kazakhstan, and Germany enrolled in the master’s program in the winter semester of 2006/07.

The number of candidates has steadily increased throughout the years, demonstrating the course’s high profile and international awareness.

Typically, the course begins with roughly 20 international participants, representing 60 to 80 percent of all students enrolled.

Requirements for Master Program Hydro Science & Engineering Qualification

The application for the master course implies a degree in Natural Sciences or Civil Engineering:

  • Bachelor degree for international students
  • Students from German Universities may join the Hydro Science and Engineering Master program after their 6th semester (3rd year). The admission depends on a qualified Pre-Diploma (Vordiplom) and successful 3rd year results
  • Graduates from a (German) “Fachhochschule”

The master course is held in English; non-native speakers must demonstrate competence in English with a test showing their ‘very good upper intermediate level’ (level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages CEFR).

Documents Required for Application

  • Formal application to determine aptitude for the Master’s degree program in HydroScience and Engineering.
  • Officially authenticated photocopy of your higher education entrance qualification (Abitur, Baccalaureate, School-Leaving Certificate, O- and A-Levels etc.), including list of grades and a scale (minimum to pass, maximum achievable). AND: Officially authenticated photocopy of the English translation of your higher education entrance qualification certificate (if the original was issued in a language other than German or English), completed with a list of grades and the corresponding scale (minimum to pass, maximum achievable).
  • Officially authenticated photocopy of your university degree certificates. AND: Officially authenticated photocopy of the English translation of your university degree certificate(s) (if the original was issued in a language other than German or English), completed with a list of grades and the corresponding scale (minimum to pass, maximum achievable). If your university supplies you with transcripts or mark sheets, please include an original or an authenticated copy. A transcript or mark sheet is a list of subjects studied and the grades obtained.
  • Certificate demonstrating proficiency in English: English language certificates showing evidence of C1-level according to the European Reference Framework are considered.
  • CV including educational background and professional career.
  • Letter of Motivation to join HSE

How to Apply

Applicants for admission to TUD (NOT applying for DAAD scholarship) with a foreign university degree:

Applicants with a foreign university degree (e.g. Bachelor) have to apply via uni-assist.  Applications via uni assist must be done online. All application documents have to be uploaded by the deadline.

Applicants with a German university degree:

Applicants with a German university degree (e.g. Bachelor) have to apply via SELMA the application portal of TU Dresden.

Applicants for DAAD scholarship:

  • German and  EU applicants and applicants with a German university degree:
    1 April to 15 July each year
  • Non-EU applicants with a foreign university degree:
    1 April to 31 May each year
  • Applying for DAAD scholarship to start studies the following year:
    TU Dresden directly: 15 October each year
    German Embassy or DAAD Regional Office: 31st July each year
